IronMerge People is currently seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for our Tier One client. This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to step into a fast-paced mining and resources environment and have a big impact immediately.
About the role We are looking for a Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team within Finance — Finance Systems and Operations, on a 12-month maximum term contract based in West Perth.
You will provide accurate and timely processing of our fortnightly payroll in SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), working as the day-to-day processing and first point of contact layer of the team.
This is not purely a processing role. You will also run first-pass cycle checks, support reconciliations, contribute to system testing, and be encouraged to raise ideas for doing things better — building the analytical capability that supports progression toward an analyst role.
Duties:
End-to-end fortnightly payroll processing in SAP ECP, including pay smoothing, salary sacrifice and standard termination payments.
Setting up new starters, including tax file numbers, tax declarations and superannuation.
Preparing fortnightly EFT requisitions and submitting them for approval.
Preparing the fortnightly payroll variance report and completing a first-pass review against the prior pay.
Reconciling net pay to the bank file, and supporting STP, superannuation and payroll tax reconciliations.
Answering payroll enquiries from employees and leaders within agreed service timeframes.
Liaising with the People Support Centre on appointments, terminations and pay-affecting changes.
Executing user acceptance testing for payroll system changes, and helping keep our procedures current.
Identifying opportunities to simplify or automate the way we work.
Skills & Experience: Essential
Proven payroll processing experience with complex employment structures, including allowances, deductions, rosters and bonuses.
Experience working with high-volume, high-transaction pay runs.
Experience using SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), or a comparable enterprise payroll system.
Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance, including the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, modern awards, PAYG, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll.
Solid Excel skills, comfortable following existing formulas and using pivot tables, with a willingness to develop further.
Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy and a commitment to data integrity.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain pay matters clearly to people without a payroll background.
Sound judgement around confidentiality and sensitive employee information.
Skills & Experience: Desirable
Payroll experience within mining or resources, or another environment with rostered and fly-in fly-out workforces.
Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, or equivalent payroll experience.
Exposure to payroll system testing or process improvement work.
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Australia and be currently residing in Perth to be considered.
